The main objective of the Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (ASAM) is to provide solutions for the problems encountered by the refugees and asylum seekers and to support these groups towards meeting their basic needs. For this aim, ASAM carries out activities including providing psycho-social counseling for refugees and asylum seekers, raising awareness in public regarding the refugees and asylum seekers and drawing the attention of the related authorities to the problems of these groups. ASAM provides services to refugees and asylum seekers without discrimination on the basis of language, religion, gender, race, sexual orientation or political stance.
Association for Solidarity with Asylum Seekers and Migrants (ASAM) has been established on 22.12.1995 in Ankara as a non-profit and a non-governmental organization. ASAM is an implementing partner to the United Nations High Commissionary for Refugees (UNHCR) Turkey Office and is a member to the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures and the UNITED for Intercultural Action.
ASAM carries out its activities through its 15 field offices scattered in various cities in Turkey, under the coordination of the ASAM Cenral Office in Ankara: Afyonkarahisar, Amasya, Gaziantep, Isparta, İstanbul, Kayseri (2 offices), Kırşehir, Konya, Nevşehir, Niğde, Sakarya, Tokat and Yalova. Moreover, Amasya office is responsible for the cities of Çorum and Kastamonu, Konya office is responsible for the city of Karaman and Isparta office is responsible for the city of Burdur. As a result of this network, ASAM carries out intensive activities in 19 cities of Turkey.
ASAM also contributes towards academic research in the area of migration by means of crisis analysis at national and international level with the aim of providing data for the prediction of the migration movements at national and international level.
